Pookie's 6 years old today! We woke up to 3 inches of snow and its all melted already;{

May 2nd
wee's got Cheeckins! and in the words of a certain dwarf in the Fellowship of the Ring "I hope they last the night." The temps dropped down to 32'F. The birds are boxed in a play house, aka normal doghouse size-3x3x3Ft with tons of hay> Faun covered it with the tarp from a pontoon boat. They've the upturned legs of a rackety chair and the water n feed feast they are said to enjoy. Faun peeked in on them and they were roosting like a trio of furry bowling pins...looking surprised.

The birds seem to be a cross between ostriches, vultures and bowling pins. Don't know about the girls names yet, but buckeye or beaky is in the run for the Screecher. They do have the most wonderful croon at night, Its a low drone that reminds me of that Australian tooter stick. We need to figure out a tip proof way of feeding them though. They keep burying the feed in the hay.

Went to Peter & Barb's place for Mother's Day. Good food! Good company! Came home with a Toshiba lap top. Needs a little work to get it up to date. Gunna use it for storage for a while, then put Linux on it :}

The boys are thrilled to have the 2nd bed room door open again. The best way to drive them nuts? Close a door!

The birds still have no eggs, but they're not dead either:} so they're in stasis. Its been a cool spring, but the snow is gone

4 weeks earlier than last year.

The birds were squawing. They'd knocked all thier food on the floor so Faun uncovered it and left the door blocked open with its screen

Even before the keys became a problem, we were having a problem with the beater, aka 'Woody the Pooh' or 'Patches.'

We had picked up Patches from the repair shop where he had a quadruple ball-joint, left tie-rod end and right side rotor and pads replacements.

All he needs now is the brake and gas tank leaks fixed and he'll be 'as good as new!' After getting Patches we took him to Luck for an alignment and then we went home to the good ol' Round Lake cabin.

When we got there, Doc found that his keys were missing. They had run away. Not the first time this has happened lately either!

We back-tracked to Pepper Tire and Alignment in Luck to look in Patches. When we got there, we remembered that the keys for Patches were inside the repair shop. So, Faun, being skinny and daring climbed into the cab from the back window and unlocked the door so we could get in and

search. Well, the keys had really run away good. They were not in the first place we looked. Duh. How often does that happen? They are always in the last place you look!

The last place Doc remembered seeing the keys was at O'Gaey's repair shop in Centeria where Patches had all the transplants. So, it was back to Centuria, only six miles away.

When we got there, we spotted the keys on the ground near where we had previously parked. They were still trying to run and hide from us, but; just weren't fast enough for us.

We took our time going home and turned onto Round Lake Road at about 7 PM. Just as we got to the turn around the pond where we'd like to maybe build a house, we found a sheriff's car with light flashing. There was a willow tree down across most of the road. When we stopped and talked with the sheriff's deputy, who reminded us of a former neighbor, Caprice, she told us that she had called everybody and could not get any services out to clear the tree. So we volunteered to come back with a chain-saw and clear the tree.

Fifteen minutes later we returned with gloves and earplugs for all and set to it with the tree. The three of us had probably cleared about two-thirds of it when another guy showed up. He just pulled up and pulled a chain-saw out of his truck and started helping. Turned out, he told us later, the county dispatcher called him and asked him to help. He was retired from county service but; lived somewhere close. Needless to say, we cleaned it up in no time and were on our way back home by 7:50. Another fun adventure of Doc and Faun's.

One of the hens got loose. We chased her into the woods and i ran in to barbed wire. Later, we almost got her at the house. Then she ran up away to Allen's place (a neighbor's). Tried to herd her by tossing sticks in front of her, and she flew up and hit it. Then she couldn't land in the tree. She ran away up the hill. Faun almost got her headed back down, but no she was running up the drive as fast as her little legs could carry her. She's run away from us.

We bought lumber for a cage/aerie and now the damn bird has flown the coop! We are contemplating giving our birds and stuff to John & Loretta as that have four others.

Got a neet card from the sheriff :} Makes us a little proud as well as pleased that she actually took the time to thank us. People just don't do that often enough anymore, do they? Click here to see it.
